Student's Hostel Gowett is housed in a fine mansion built in early last century by one of the British Etruscan Mines owners, Mr Gowett.

The property is part of the San Silvestro Archaeological and Mining Park and it's set in a strategic position to enjoy a charming area of Tuscany, where nature and history merge in a stunning landscape.

Today, it's a modern youth hostel with 99 beds in double rooms or 4, 6 and 8 bed rooms, all with private bathroom and perfectly suitable for any traveler.

Large outdoor gardens - reached by a monumental staircase - face the spectacular San Silvestro Rock.

In addition, on ground floor are the reception hall, the breakfast room and the DELLA ROCCA RESTAURANT, where guests can enjoy specialties of Italian regions as TUSCANY, EMILIA ROMAGNA and SICILY proposed by our CHEF reinterpreting traditional recipes.

San Silvestro Park is just five minutes far from the medieval village of Campiglia Marittima. Others, including Suvereto, Castagneto Carducci and it’s beautifull Bolgheri Castel, are reachble in almost 20 minutes. The local shoreline called Etruscan Coast has been honored - year by year - with The Blue Flag an international award established in 1987 with the support of two UN agencies.

The Hostel is just 5 km far from San Vincenzo and Donoratico seaside. The Rimigliano Coastal Park and the Gulf of Baratti - where visitors can enjoy free beaches surrounded by a kilometre of pine forest - are also easily to reach. The Renaissance city of Piombino, its port and ferries to Elba, Montecristo and the other islands of the Tuscan Archipelago can be reached in 30 minutes.

Inside the San Silvestro Archaeological and Mining Park there are several archaeological, mining and natural paths. You can go hiking, take guided tours, discover life in the medieval setting San Silvestro Rock or do an exploration inside a mine.
Two of the latest park achievements are the renovation of a XXth century tunnel - now visitable by a mining train - and the institution of Villa Lanzi - Documentation Center.
The park also has three museums: Archaeological and Mineral Museum (history and geology of the area); Temperino Mine (underground path through the evolution of mining techniques) and Earle Shaft (mining machineries and miners social history museum).
